Health Resolutions At Home

postb

Staying Healthy in Isolation

Since the start of the year, our lives have dramatically changed, with many of us naturally finding it an anxious and stressful time. As we temporarily hit pause, and navigate through life in these times of isolation and social distancing, we must continue to make our health and wellness a priority.

We turned to Resolution Retreats; Australasia’s largest weight loss, health and wellness retreat exclusively for women, based at beautiful Lake Kapapiro, New Zealand to share some of their expert tips and tricks with us.

Remember this can be a stressful time for many, and your health and wellness is the utmost important to get through this unprecedented time of change. Try to focus your energy on the things that you can control and those that will benefit your health and wellbeing. Choose nutritious foods that will nourish your body, 70% of our immunity lives in our guts. What we put in our bodies reflects how our whole immune system functions.

REST

Getting enough sleep is so important for our mental and physical health. A healthy sleep pattern will ensure you are getting the restorative rest your body needs, especially in times of stress.  When your body is under stress, your immune system is more susceptible to becoming rundown. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time daily to assist your natural biological rhythms.

MOVEMENT

Health is a doing word.  Keeping our bodies moving is so important for our mental and physical health, and how we are exercising will look a little different for all of us right now.  Make the most of what is available to you.  Set aside 30 minutes for yourself each day and choose something you truly enjoy.  Remember, habits are easier to maintain when they become a part of our daily routine and when we feel good about doing them too.  There are so many great online exercise classes to choose from right now, and remember to have fun.

BE ORGANISED & PLAN AHEAD

Preparing healthy snacks and meals ahead of time ensures you are fueling your body with healthy eating choices.  Avoid those 3pm slumps that have us reaching for anything, and avoid eating out of boredom.  Enjoy hydrating your body with herbal teas and drink lots of water throughout the day to ensure you’re not mistaking dehydration for hunger.  It will keep you feeling energised too.

DISCONNECT

Avoid constantly being engaged with watching or listening to the news, this includes spending too much time on social media, and set out a designated time to check in with important, daily updates. Exposing ourselves constantly to updates can increase feelings of stress and anxiousness over things we can’t control.  Use this time instead to focus on doing something positive within your bubble.
